Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Manager of Veterinary Technical Services, Comparative Medicine, this position will perform and provide assistance in implementing CM's Animal Health Surveillance Program. These duties will include monitoring daily animal health surveillance, and monitoring of compliance with USDA, IACUC, and AAALAC policies and regulations. This position will also be required to perform first line basic care, feeding, and husbandry of all species of animals used in research at UNMC as required. Other duties may be assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School education or GED
  • 3 years experience in a veterinary surgery clinic and/or laboratory animal type setting.

Post high school education in veterinary, biological, or related field can be substituted for up to two years of experience.

 

  • The incumbent must be familiar with current Federal Laws and regulations regarding animal care and use, NIH guidelines, and AAALAC accreditation requirements to assure compliance.
  • Must have ability to follow through on multiple projects and work assignments simultaneously.
  • Must have the ability to interact with individuals of great diversity in culture and education.
  • Must be high organized and detail oriented. Individual must exhibit independent judgement in problem resolution and decision making with minimal supervision.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences
  • Experience with a variety of species in an AAALAC Accredited Animal Care and Use Program or USDA licensed facility.
  • Certification as AALAS Laboratory Animal Technician (RLAT).
  • Microsoft Access,Microsoft Word,Microsoft Outlook
